Helfštýn Castle

Medieval Charm

If you wish to experience the unforgettable atomosphere of the Middle Ages, you can be one of the hundred thousand visitors, who pass through the gates of the Helfštýn Castle every year. The castle, located near Týn nad Bečvou, was built in the 14th century on a wooded hill and can be seen from a distance on all sides. One of the most frequently visited sights of the Olomouc Region, deliberately destroyed in the 17th century, today has the charakter of a fort, featuring six gates and a number of buildings and ramparts dating back to the 18 th century. Its name allegedly refers to the robber Helfried od Linava, the founder of the castle. The basement of the castle palace houses an interesting exhibition on historical minting and artistic blacksmithing.
