The former Gothic castle is today represented only by the remains of the fortifications and the cylindrical tower which once formed its crucial defensive elements. The castle was gradually redesigned, expanded and converted. The interior boasts rich decorations from the 14 th to 19 th centuries, encompassing works by Dutch, Italian, German, and Czech artists. Another valuable feature is its collection of authentic Renaissance and Baroque ceramic stoves. Throughout the season, the castle is a place for various interesting events. The permanent exhibitions will be supplement in the 2007 sesason with an exhibition on historic clocks.

April, October: Sat, Sun and holidays 9am to 4pm
May-September: Tues-Sun 9am to 5pm.

Castle Sovinec

The Largest Castle Grounds


The largest castle grounds in the Jeseníky mountains are situated on a rocky spur and have a very rich past. It was, for example, an important Hussite fortress, a prison and a station for SS units during WWII. Visitors can take a look at several courtyards and the Upper Castle. The stone lookout offers a wonderful view of Sovinec natural park lying nearby. You can also attend some of the interesting events which take place at Sovinec Castle.
